Julia Lynx is a Canadian singer songwriter living in Canmore, Alberta. Her pure honey vocals and a clear sparkling tone grab the audience instantly. Julia's songs carry a soothing nostalgia and are infused with a contemporary folk pop edge.

DOULA SUPPORT

In 2000, I began working as a doula. Known as Julia Doulia in my community, I practice with a down to earth approach. My Great Grandmother Ettie Short was a midwife in northern Alberta and my Mother was a public health nurse. I share in their legacy of supporting families in their birthing time. I am dedicated to publicly advocating for women to have the best childbirth choices available to them, whether in rural or urban settings. I am a certified doula through Birth Ways International. At this time, I am working as a doula alongside families birthing with midwives. I am very happy to refer you to doula's working with physicians as their primary care givers.

A doula is experienced in childbirth providing continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother and partner before, during, and after childbirth. 

  • Doula support enhances the well being of mothers and babies, which contributes to fewer medical interventions.

  • Doula's compliment and enhance the father/partner’s role in labor and delivery.

  • Continuous labor support results in positive birth experiences and empowers women with great self-awareness, which leads to increased family bonding, healthier babies, positive breastfeeding relationships and lessened post-partum depression.

Giving birth is one of life's most thrilling and intense experiences. With encouragement, support and love, women discover their body's innate knowledge of how to birth with confidence. Since ancient times, women have sought out the support of caring women during incredible transitions in their lives. In modern days, births attended by doula's have been known to be shorter, with less complications requiring fewer medical interventions.

I believe in the therapeutic value of music for birthing women so I raised the funds for our local hospital to get two good sound system. I continue to develop skills and knowledge at Doula workshops, building grassroots and professional connections within the birthing network. I attend births in the Bow Valley and Calgary and have worked with many mothers birthing twins.
